Airport foundation fundraiser set for April

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- The Airport High School Educational Foundation will hold its annual auction in April to raise money for student scholarships.


The event is set for April 30 at Airport High School. As part of the evening’s events, Les Evans will be inducted into the Educator Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni winners Claude Eison III and R.V. Brown will be recognized.


The nonprofit foundation has given nearly $300,000 in scholarships and grants through the years..


“We are grateful to have the support and participation of the many local volunteers and businesses in this event, as it provides scholarships for deserving students and grants for teachers working to improve their skills,” foundation president Donny Burkett said.


Airport opened in 1958 as a combination junior/senior high school. According to the website, the junior high school moved into its own facility after one year and the high school grew by adding one grade at a time until the first class graduated in 1964.


Tickets are $50 per person or $90 per couple. Corporate table sponsorships also are available. Social hour and a silent auction start at 6pm, followed by dinner at 7 at the school, 1315 Boston Ave.
