Director of Parenting / Early Childhood Coordinator

It is with great pride that I serve Lexington School District Two as Director of Parenting / Early Childhood Coordinator. I began my career in the district in 1994 as a teacher at Claude A. Taylor Elementary.  After six years at Taylor, I moved into the role of school counselor at Congaree Wood Early Childhood Center (CWECC) and most recently held the position of assistant principal at CWECC.

Over the course of my 28 years of experience working with the youngest children in Lexington School District Two, I have developed a sense of urgency for ensuring that our students are empowered to develop an ownership of their learning from the earliest age. It is essential that early childhood aged students are in a learning environment that is safe, welcoming, and engaging.  We strive to make each of our classrooms across the district meet this criteria. Our teachers promote literacy development, critical thinking, and problem solving and do it in a developmentally appropriate way. I invite you to visit any of our schools’ classrooms to see for yourselves the wonderful learning that is taking place.

Our STAR (Starting Together Arriving Ready) parent education program provides comprehensive support for parents of children from the infant stage to 4 years old. Families who meet qualifying factors receive home support and connections to agencies in the community. Through our partnership with First Steps, this program's mission is to strengthen connections between families and schools in order to empower our youngest learners to achieve success and be ready for school.

If I can be of assistance to you in any way as you begin your child’s educational journey, please don’t hesitate to contact me at (803) 926-5743.

Sincerely,

Mary Brooks, M.Ed.
