Lexington Two receives nearly $291,000 for energy initiatives

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Lexington Two has received nearly $291,000 in incentives over the past three years for energy efficient systems in district schools.

The incentives, the most recent awarded this spring, were granted through EnergyWise for Your Business, a program administered by South Carolina Electric & Gas, now Dominion Energy.

The incentives, committed for the installation of new energy-efficient HVAC systems in three Lexington Two schools, include:

  • $90,937 for Fulmer Middle, currently under renovation at 1614 Walterboro St. The school is expected to open for the 2019-20 school year.

  • $100,000 for Riverbank Elementary, which opened this school year; and

  • $100,000 for Lexington Two Innovation Center, which opened this school year.

“One of our goals in Lexington Two is to make buildings more energy efficient,” said Don Icenhower, the district’s chief operations officer. “We have saved $30,000 in energy costs so far this year,  compared with the same period last year. That’s impressive, considering we increased square footage this year with two new schools.”

The EnergyWise for Your Business program provides incentives for electric customers who make energy-efficient improvements to their businesses.

“We’re appreciative that this utility offers incentives that have allowed us to put in more energy-efficient systems,” Icenhower said. “It’s a strategy that works well for them, and certainly for us.”
