Concerns/Complaints about Instructional Materials
If you need help accessing any of the forms referenced here, please email Dawn Kujawa at [email protected].
When a parent/guardian with a child attending a Lexington Two school has a concern about a particular book or other instructional material available to students, the parent/guardian should first meet with the principal, who is charged with the responsibility and decision making over materials in his/her school. After hearing the input of the parent/guardian and reviewing the material, the principal will determine whether the instructional materials are appropriate for his/her school, take any necessary action with respect to the materials, as determined appropriate by the principal, and notify the parent/guardian of his/her decision.
If a parent/guardian is not satisfied with the principal’s decision, he/she may file a written complaint. This complaint must be filled out on the form provided by the SC Department of Education, consistent with State Board of Education Regulation 43-170. The complaint form may be found by clicking this link. This complaint form should be submitted directly to the Superintendent’s Office by email to Erin Strange, [email protected]. Next steps are consistent with State Board of Education Regulation 43-170 and are outlined in Board Policy KEC Parent/Guardian Complaints about Instructional Materials.
