Concerns/Complaints about Instructional Materials


This process is based on State Board of Education: Uniform Procedure for Selection or Reconsideration of Instructional Materials (Regulation 43-170)  .

When a parent/guardian with a child attending a Lexington Two school has a concern about a particular book or other instructional material available to students, the parent/guardian should first meet with the principal, who is charged with the responsibility and decision making over materials in his/her school.  After hearing the input of the parent/guardian and reviewing the material, the principal will determine whether the instructional materials are appropriate for his/her school, take any necessary action with respect to the materials, as determined appropriate by the principal, and notify the parent/guardian of his/her decision. 


If a parent/guardian is not satisfied with the principal’s decision, he/she may file a written complaint. This complaint must be filled out on the form provided by the SC Department of Education, consistent with State Board of Education Regulation 43-170.   The complaint form may be found by clicking this link.  This complaint form should be submitted directly to the Superintendent’s Office by email to Erin Strange, [email protected]Next steps are consistent with State Board of Education Regulation 43-170 and are outlined in Board Policy KEC Parent/Guardian Complaints about Instructional Materials

Media Parental Choice Form


Lexington Two parents/guardians always have the right to opt their child out of all school library

books and other materials. The district’s opt-out form, effective for the entire school year, may be downloaded by clicking this link. Once completed, please turn the form in to your school principal.
