WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Students in James Brown's AP and CP environmental science classes at Brookland-Cayce High recently planted roughly 36 milkweed plants on the property of Sub Station 2, near the school's campus. The initiative was funded by the store's owner, Chris Kueny, to promote butterfly conservation and beautify what had previously been an unmanaged portion of land he owns near the fence of the BC parking lot. Students will monitor the growth and conditions of the plants as a Legacy project for the foreseeable future.
Brown's students also have worked on environmental and beautification projects in City of Cayce parks and other areas around the BCHS campus.
