Airport High is first in Southeast to roll out new cafeteria concept

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Airport High School is the first school in the Southeast to roll out a new lunch experience, featuring a menu designed by roughly 300 students from 28 Sodexo high schools nationwide.

The Taste 4 concept, introduced this week at the Lexington Two high school, features five food stations emphasizing fresh, “build your own” food bars and offerings, along with expanded choices, sauces and sides.

Those choices include twists on traditional favorites, as well as global foods, “adventure” offerings, and healthy deli, wrap and garden salad bars. Among some of the eye-catching foods on the inaugural week’s menu: a Philly Pizza  (topped with roasted peppers, onion and banana pepper sauce); chicken and waffles; and a Fiesta bar with build-your-own fajitas, carnitas and taco salad bowls, cilantro lime rice and more.

In its first week, the menu at Airport High -- a model site for Taste 4 for Sodexo’s  Southeast region -- was drawing a lot of interest. Visitors from Midlands area and out-of-state schools stopped in for lunch thorughout the week to sample from the five food stations, check out the redesigned cafeteria look, and gauge student interest.

That student interest, according to Rion Skinner, a Sodexo general manager in Lexington Two, is high.

“The kids are loving it,” she said, noting the cafeteria saw an increase in students eating there over the week.

The Taste 4 menu and cafeteria redesign will roll out at Brookland-Cayce High School in early 2019.
