Host sites needed for summer meals program

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Lexington District Two is seeking host sites for its annual weekday summer meals program.

The school district and Sodexo Inc. are once again participating in the federally funded child nutrition program to provide free, nutritious lunch meals to help children in needed areas throughout the summer months when they are out of school.   The program’s motto is, "Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation."

Organized groups such as camps, churches and community centers that are interested in becoming a site sponsor may contact Rion Skinner at (803) 739-8381 or email [email protected] for more information.

Information on meal locations and serving times will be released later this month.

Children eligible to participate in the summer feeding program are those who are 18 years of age and younger, and 19 and older with a physically or mental disability as defined by the SC Department of Education (those determined by the applicable state agency to be mentally or physically disabled and who participate during the school year in a public or private non-profit program for mentally or physically disabled persons).

Sites are open on a first-come, first-served basis to all children of the community at large. Meals are typically served Monday through Friday.
