Airport High student to represent South Carolina at Congress of Future Medical Leaders

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- A sophomore at Airport High School will represent South Carolina this summer as a delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Massachusetts.

Natalie Bradwell has been selected for the prestigious program, set for June 25-27 in Boston. The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields. The purpose of the event is to inspire, motivate and direct these students and, after the event, to provide a path, plan and resources to help them reach their goals.

During the three-day Congress, Bradwell will join students from across the country and hear Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science winners talk about leading medical research; be given advice from Ivy League and top medical school deans on what to expect in medical school; witness stories told by patients who are living medical miracles; be inspired by fellow teen medical science prodigies; and learn about cutting-edge advances and the future in medicine and medical technology.

Bradwell was nominated by Dr. Mario Capecchi, winner of the Nobel Prize in medicine and science director of the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists.  Part of the academy’s mission is to identify prospective medical talent at an early age and help students acquire the necessary experience and skills for a medical career.

Among activities at Airport, Bradwell plays varsity soccer and is a member of Student Council and the Beta Club.
