Back to school guide, with pens, paints, rulers, scissors

As summer vacation winds down, and with classes starting next week, we want to share a few tips to help ensure that your child has a smooth transition to the first day of the new school year on Wednesday, August 5.

If you have questions not answered here, please feel free to contact your school.

HAVE YOU COMPLETED STUDENT ENROLLMENT?

If you haven’t completed your student’s enrollment, now is the time to do it, before the first day of school.  Click this link to go to our online registration page. If you need assistance, you can also stop by the district office at 3205 Platt Springs Road or at your child’s school from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. A photo ID and two proofs of residency will be required to complete registration. For special circumstances, contact the Student Services Office: (803) 739-3141.

FREE STUDENT MEALS THIS YEAR

All Lexington Two students will eat breakfast and lunch meals at no cost during the 2026-2027 year, with the district’s participation in the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program.  Students can receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day. No further action is required of Lexington Two families to participate.

BUS TRANSPORTATION

Families with students who will ride the bus should sign up for the My Ride K-12 app to access information about bus stop locations and drop-off/pick-up times.  If you have any questions, call the Transportation Office at (803) 755-7453.  If your child will be a car rider or driver, please get specific details from your school about morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, parking areas, and more.

WALK INTO SCHOOL

As has been the case the past few years,  parents/guardians or other adult family members will not be allowed to walk children into school buildings each morning.  School personnel must safely guide hundreds of students into district buildings and classrooms in a short amount of time each morning, while managing the flow of cars and buses around school campuses and roads. Having car riders park and walk through these busy drop-off areas can create unexpected hazards. In addition, limiting the numbers of visitors coming and going through school buildings and classrooms during the busy morning drop-off better ensures a safe and seamless transition to an on-time start to the instructional day for students.

5K STAGGERED START

Our 5 Year Old (5K) kindergarten students will have a staggered start for the first three days of the new school year, beginning August 5. This staggered start will allow for orientation on the first day of school, followed by attendance “groupings” over the next two days to finish the week. A full-time launch for all students, with a regular school-day schedule, will begin on August 10.  Get other details by clicking this link, or view a 4K/5K flyer by clicking this link

SAFETY & SECURITY

A safe learning environment is a top priority, and you will hear us talk about that throughout the year.  All Lexington Two schools, like numerous schools and organizations nationwide, use the I Love U Guys Standard Response Protocols to prepare for different emergency situations, from earthquakes to tornadoes, medical to fire, intruders, and more. We encourage parents/guardians to become familiar with the protocols — Hold, Secure, Evacuate, Shelter.  Should a change in response protocol at your child’s school become necessary, we will communicate with you by district text, phone, and/or email, using your provided contact information in PowerSchool.

Lexington Two uses a number of security measures and equipment in its schools; read about them here. We also encourage parents/guardians to remind their students to immediately report any safety concerns or suspicious/unusual activities or social media posts to an administrator, district employee, SRO or to the district’s tipline: (803) 363-5172 or lex2tipline@lex2.org.

BACK TO SCHOOL EVENTS

Make plans to attend upcoming open house and orientation events welcoming students and families to the 2026-2027 school year. Click this link to find orientation and open house times and dates at your school. Events are subject to change, so please confirm with your school.

GAME DAY GUIDELINES

We encourage students and families to come out and support our athletic teams. We’ve prepared a guide to the Game Day Experience, including information on our clear bag policy, $2 student tickets, and more. Click this link for information.

STAY IN THE KNOW

We try to make it easy to keep up with district and school happenings. Watch our district and school websites (user tip: our websites can be changed to another preferred language using the TRANSLATE button, top right). Also, be sure to follow our district and school social media sites, and download our Lexington Two app.

Thank you for your support, and we are looking forward to welcoming your child on Wednesday, August 5.
